Power outages and other emergencies call for preparedness, especially in rentals.
Keep the essential items in a kitchen drawer so they can be found when the power is out.
Store batteries, flashlight, matches, candles, and a battery operated radio in the drawer.
Often when the lights go out you end up fumbling all over the house in the dark trying to find a flashlight.
Apartment buildings are not immune to blackouts which also affect rental apartments. Toronto has had a few blackouts, most notably the 2003 Northeast Blackout.
