Toronto Neighbourhoods

Whether you are a student living at the Annex or in bohemian Kensington, a young professional nestled with like-minded dwellers in Liberty Village or City Place, a high-powered exec living it up in the Financial District, or an entrepreneur revelling in Toronto’s ever-expanding tech community of King West, Toronto has something for you.

One downside of living in Canada’s largest city is that rent here is always on the rise, with fewer rental units available than ever before (a 16-year-low in vacancy rates is upon us), making finding an Apartment in Toronto into no easy task.

Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods, all of them offering something unique and unforgettable. Below we review what every part of the city has to offer to its tenants.

West

Roncesvalles Village - Parkdale - High Park - The Junction - Davenport - Bloor West Village

The south most point of this area includes Parkdale, a real mixed neighbourhood featuring low rent apartments and sprawling Victorian mansions. Further west is the lovely Roncesvalles Village, with its quaint small town feel and delicious Polish bakeries. Nearby is High Park, a 400-acre park, a natural oasis featuring a pool, tennis courts, a zoo, and an off-leash dog park. The Junction Triangle, is a neighborhood that saw a major revitalization, with many of its industrial buildings transformed into lofts. Bloor West Village is popular with families, which comes as no surprise considering how many great amenities are within a walking distance.

Downtown

City Place - Liberty Village - West Queen West - Little Italy - St. Lawrence - Cabbagetown - Church Yonge Corridor

Don’t miss the trendy Queen Street West, voted by Vogue as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world, check out the gorgeous Trinity Bellwoods park in the summertime with beer-sipping hipsters picnicking. The Financial District can also be found downtown Toronto, a fast-paced skyscraper-filled area that often passes for New York in film productions. It is home to Toronto’s many sports teams, including the Blue Jays, the Raptors and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Just east of the sports arenas is the beautiful Esplanade, a street that is home to great restaurants and bars. In the east corner of downtown is the historic Distillery District, a pedestrian district with cobblestone streets, that transforms into a winter wonderland in December. In the Northern parts of downtown you can find the trendy designer-filled Yorkville and east of that, the Church-Wellesley Village, a gay-friendly area that hosts Toronto’s Pride Festival.

East

Riverdale - Danforth Village - The Beaches - Leslieville - Riverside

In the mood for Gyros? A swim? A freshly-roasted brew? The east side of Toronto is the place for you to be. Stretching from the beaches in the south end, with the lovely Ashbridge’s Bay Park, to the Danforth Village in the North, featuring some of the best greek food you’ll taste on this side of the Atlantic. The neighbourhood of Leslieville is a buzzing eclectic area home to Little India, full of delicious and exotic foods. Just north of Leslieville is Riverdale, its Victorian homes make it a perfect area to stroll (or live) around, and don’t miss Riverdale Park - a huge green space in the heart of the city.

North

Davisville Village - Lawrence Park - Rosedale - Yorkville - Annex - Summer Hill - Yonge and Eglinton - York Mills

The TTC makes for easy access to the North parts of Toronto, including the Yonge and Eglinton area and North York. Just past Yorkville, the chic and posh neighbourhood of Rosedale has many beautiful parks and Edwardian, Georgian, Victorian, and Tudor style homes. Travelling further north (preferably on the TTC), Yonge street offers an assortment of top notch shopping and eating establishments. The Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood has been the go-to area for many a young professional, full of great restaurants, bakeries, entertainment attractions, and new condo developments. Another Toronto neighbourhood that is no stranger to new condo developments is North York, the Yonge and Sheppard area has transformed over the last few years welcoming trendy new shops and restaurants.
