Alwington is among Kingston’s oldest and most historic areas, home to the former Kingston Penitentiary and grand mansions. Most homes were built before the 1940s but are well-renovated. Its proximity to Queen’s University makes it popular with staff and students. Williamsville is a busy area balancing residential life with local businesses. It offers access to the downtown waterfront and the Kingston Memorial Centre Arena. Sydenham boasts some of the city's most stunning limestone architecture, featuring a mix of historic homes and rental apartments, plus some of Kingston's best restaurants and churches. Springer Square, the heart of the downtown core, is located here.
Cataraqui River East is an ideal neighbourhood for young families, primarily consisting of couples and those with one child. Leisure activities revolve around local restaurants, fairs, and markets, with nearby golf courses and parks. Inner Harbour is a lively area popular with working-class families and students. It houses the K-Rock Centre (a major entertainment and sports venue) and the Wolfe Island Ferry Terminal, ensuring constant activity.
Although officially in the west, Portsmouth Village feels central, offering a mix of historic and renovated properties. It hosts the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour (used in the 1976 Olympics) and provides access to excellent shopping, dining, Queen’s University’s West Campus, and Lake Ontario Park. Grenville Park combines ranch-style family homes with newer apartment complexes. Abundant parkland gives the neighbourhood a country feel despite its urban proximity to shopping centres and plazas.
